LCSW Clinical Supervision

Providing quality and convenient social work supervision to LMSWs seeking LCSW licensure in the state of Texas.

About Me

I earned my Master’s in Social Work from Arizona State University. I am a LCSW-Supervisor in the State of Texas. I have been in private practice since 2016 and have also worked in the mental health field in hospital, agency, and government settings from 2007-2021.

The focus of my private practice work has been with a variety of ages including children in play therapy, activity therapy, adolescents, and individual, group, and family counseling. Most of my experience is in the areas of abuse and trauma, addiction recovery, forensic/legal issues, sex-trafficking survivors, inappropriate boundaries, stressful life events, and mental health disorders.

I have experience supervising student interns, as well as supervising staff members at various agencies. I also currently supervise LMSW therapists at my group practice agency. I look forward to the opportunity to walk alongside you as you journey into clinical licensure.

Getting Started

Cost

My program costs $50 for each 1-hour of group supervision. Currently, group runs for 1 hour per week. The total per month is $200 (in a 4 week month).

Occasionally, individual sessions will occur either by your request or as determined appropriate by supervisor. These are conducted virtually and cost $60/per hour session.

Should you choose group supervision, you will typically attend one 1-hour group supervision session per week or two 2 -hour group supervision sessions per month. Individual supervision is conducted on a weekly basis for 1-hour. This allows you to complete supervision in 25 months.

Some employers will reimburse you for your supervision cost. Be sure to ask!

FAQs

  • Choosing a clinical supervisor is one of the most significant professional decisions you will make, as supervision transforms theories and techniques learned in graduate school into application and actions. Seeking your clinical licensure can be an overwhelming experience. However, it does not have to be, let me walk beside you in this journey so you feel even more confident and competent in your clinical skills.

Supervision is done virtually and is open to any LMSW in Texas. Group supervision is typically offered in two (2) hour sessions per month and Individual supervision is offered weekly for 1 hour per week, both of which will allow you to meet the board requirements of meeting a minimum of 4 hours per month. Doing so at this rate, you can be finished with your 100 hours of supervision in 2 years. A one-hour individual session will be offered on a quarterly basis or by request.

Group supervision allows for a wider range of learning opportunities as you can learn from others in different fields, along with the expertise of a supervisor. Group members typically present cases or ethical dilemmas they encounter at work and receive feedback from myself and other group members. We’ll also work on understanding the DSM-V, different therapeutic modalities, medications, and how to prepare for the LCSW exam.

  • Group supervision is held weekly on Tuesdays from 7 pm - 8 pm CST or bi-weekly on Sundays from 5 pm - 7 pm CST.

Group is limited to 6 supervisees.

Individual supervision is scheduled on an as needed basis and most often will be scheduled during daytime hours on Fridays or daytime/evening hours on Sundays.

  • Yes. While being part of a group supervision cohort can have its advantages, there are sometimes challenges with doing supervision in a group setting. At this time, individual supervision is also an option and is conducted weekly for 1-hour virtually.

  • The board has determined that if you assess, diagnose and treat mental health or substance abuse issues using DSM-V criteria for at least 4 hours per week, you are eligible for LCSW supervision. If you’re using a diagnostic skill set and/or screening tools when working with clients or patients, you are fulfilling this requirement.

As long as you have personal client or patient interactions and utilize clinical skills, you probably meet LCSW supervision criteria.

  • In order to begin supervision with me, you should:

Attend a free consultation with me where we will discuss professional and personal goals and assure we are a good match for each other. I will ask that you submit a resume for me to review prior to your consultation.

Upon agreement that we decide to work together you will need to obtain:

    1. Letter of permission to receive supervision outside your employer- The Board requires a letter on company/agency letterhead from your current supervisor at the job you will be using to obtain your clinical hours. (I can provide a copy of an example if needed.)

    2. Signed job description on your agency’s letterhead.

    3. Professional Liability Insurance (I obtain mine from here: https://naswassurance.org/professional-liability-insurance/)

    4. Hard copy of DSM-5 TR Manual of Mental Disorders.

Upon submission of this information, I will send an email with additional forms to be completed prior to your first supervision meeting with me.

  • You must meet with your supervisor for 100 total hours in no less than 24 months. There is no time limit on length of time you can be in supervision. During this time, you must be employed and work at least 30 hours per week to be eligible to complete the supervision process in, or close to, 24 months.

If you work part-time, you need to be working at least 15 hours per week to complete supervision within 48 months. Part-time employees will need one hour of supervision per 40 work hours (usually 2-3 supervision hours per month).

3000 total work hours are required before you can apply to sit for the licensing exam.

  • To be a clinical supervisor requires significant training, as well as specific liabilities associated with being your supervisor. The costs of obtaining outside supervision is customary and I offer rates that are comparable to other supervisors in Texas. Please refer to this website if you have other concerns regarding the cost applicable to clinical supervision:
